Fernando Alonso Launches Esports Team With Logitech
Fernando Alonso, a Formula 1 star and a two-time champion has launched an Esports team. The team will feature Jamie Chadwick amongst the drivers, who is a British Formula 3 race driver and race winner. The Alonso Esports team already packs some serious punch.
Previously, Fernando was a partner to a Professional Spanish outfit G2. His collaboration with this sim-racing team did not last very long though, as he split with them in less than a year.
The new team Alonso is forming is essentially a partnership. His FA Racing team, which competes in actual Formula Renault Eurocup, and the Veloce Esports team teamed up. Their technical partner will be Logitech G. In the initial launch, seven drivers were announced.
Alonso stated: “I’m very excited to introduce a team of dedicated, talented drivers to represent my team for the 2019 season. I have hand selected some great young talents who are ready to continue bringing success to the team.”
The sim-racing side will be run by Veloce, which is one of the leading Esports teams in the segment. They have accumulated a formidable roster of sim-racers and made a partnership with Jean-Eric Vergne – the Formula E champion.
The games the team will race on are plentiful, and here are some of them:
- DiRT Rally 2.0
- Project Cars
- Gran Turismo
- rFactor 2.
One of the drivers is Jamie Chadwick – a British racing driver, best known for becoming the first female and youngest winner of the British GT Championship. She was previously already affiliated with Veloce.
Chadwick said: “Joining the team with Alonso, and with my other great teammates, will allow me to leverage my behind-the-wheel experience and formula racing skill set to compete in one of the fastest growing, competitive Esports categories. With the help of my teammates, we are pushing to bring a championship to FA Racing.”
Chadwick also said that sim-racing is closing the gap between real Formula racing and itself. When it comes to strategy and skill, both are immensely demanding.
Another one of the confirmed drivers is Alexander Dornieden, a 2017 eWTCC champion. Just like Chadwick, he too was affiliated with Veloce. More drivers will be announced!
