Thanks to the immense growth of Esports we now have small, yet intricate new ways of making money. Enter ‘Cheat hackers’. These people are mostly teenagers who create cheat codes for massive multiplayer games. Counter Strike: Global Offensive, Rainbow 6 Siege and the like. These games are most affected by these so called hackers and boy, let me tell you, this is a large industry.
Not saying that cheat codes and hackers haven’t existed in the past, but most of these tools were available for free.
Who are Cheat Hackers?
More than a third of active gamers (from the interviewed group so numbers may vary) admit to using cheats to give themselves an edge online. It’s always been easier for some to cheat their way to the top. Though today, it’s much harder. Still, this hasn’t stopped players from elevating their ‘skills’ to a higher level.
Here’s what happened with Battlefield V for example:
Even if it means paying a nice amount of cash for the hacks. Of course, such hacks include being able to see through walls in First Person Shooters, auto-aim, etc. The cheat hackers aren’t exploring the New World with this; they’re simply using well-known cheating techniques to earn an extra buck. Even this wouldn’t be a huge problem if it wasn’t for the fact they’re becoming more and more adept at creating hacks.
The cheat hackers of today can make upwards of $1,500 every month! And that’s doing nothing but seeing people buy the cheats. And as I said before, teenagers (somewhere around 16-18) are the most active with this. We don’t know how they have access to such tools and if they are the ones that really created them, but we do know that these cheats are hurting the Esports scene. Although, the damage is small at the moment. But if it continues, who knows if larger issues might arise.
One thing is for sure – no one likes cheat hackers, no one likes cheaters, and no one likes hackers. Basically, fuck them. They ruin the enjoyment of others while making it extremely easy for themselves. If you can’t get good at a game, maybe not ruin if for everyone else, eh?
