Overwatch’s creators love dropping enticing hints at what might be coming next in their game, which leads to eagle-eyed fans scouring maps for clues every time a new patch rolls out in PTR. Two Redditors, u/Karahe and u/RedDyeNo5, think they’ve figured out where Overwatch is taking players next—Havana, Cuba.
On the Numbani map, the attacking team’s first spawn room is inside Numbani Airport. Large posters in the back of the room advertise King’s Row, Volskaya, Temple of Anubis, and Hanamura, all playable maps. While playing the newly released patch on PTR, however, these two players realized that the Temple of Anubis poster had been replaced by one advertising Havana as a travel destination. The same poster also appeared in the airport’s travel agency.
Havana would certainly be a welcome addition to Overwatch’s map pool. Central and South America receive precious little representation in the map pool, and it would be interesting to see the game designers’ futuristic take on Cuba’s iconic capital.
The likelihood that this is a new map hint is bolstered by the fact that the game’s newest hero, Baptiste, served with the Caribbean Coalition during his tenure as a combat medic. This bit of lore had led some to speculate that we’d be seeing a Haiti map, in keeping with Baptiste’s origins. Hopefully Haiti isn’t off the table, but Havana is looking like a good bet for now
This wouldn’t be the first time the Numbani airport has been used to reveal an upcoming change to the game. The wreckage now visible in the airport spawn room was added just ahead of Orisa’s release. Doomfist’s gauntlet was also removed from the Numbani payload in time with his reveal.
Overwatch’s latest map, Paris, just went live in February, so even if Havana is the next map, we likely won’t see it for a while yet.
