Gamescom, the biggest gaming event in Europe, is set to start in less than 24 hours. eSports as well as eSports betting, streaming, crowdfunding and pretty much everything eSports related is continuing to grow. Needless to say, Gamescom does so as well. This time around, Gamescom 2018 will feature roughly 1,000 exhibitors coming from more than 50 countries. They will show off upcoming games and game-related hardware and bring news that many fans (and the media) are desperately craving for. In fact, it’s the biggest gaming event in Europe and second biggest in the world. Asia Game Show sits comfortable at the first place, if we’re counting the number of visitors and exhibition space. Last year’s Gamescom brought in record-breaking 350,000 visitors but that number will most likely be beaten this year around! So, it’s only logical for us to dig deeper and provide you with more Gamescom 2018 news:

What to expect at Gamescom 2018
Like it was stated above, this year’s Gamescom is set to feature around 1,000 exhibitors from more than 50 countries. It would be too long (and outright boring, to say the least) to list them all so we decided to twist it up a bit. We will only be focusing on the biggest and most anticipated brands and say a thing or two about their potential announcements. So, without any further ado, let’s kick it off!
The biggest Gamescom 2018 news from Sony’s exhibition is definitely the so-called Project Mephisto. There’s a huge internet debate going on about the game in question and it all started after the official nominations for the best Gamescom games. More precisely, Project Mephisto was nominated alongside Marvel’s Spiderman and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey for the Best Console Game PS4 category. There are 2 names dominating the internet – new Diablo game (one of the enemies in D2 was called Mephisto) and an old indie game called Vagante (whose code name was Mephisto). Whichever it is, it most likely won’t win the title since we all know AC Odyssey snatched it up for sure!
Microsoft is going to hold an online announcement. In fact, it will be a special episode of their Inside Xbox show. The livestream is set to be available on a wide array of websites including Xbox.com, Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Mixer. As for the actual topics go, fans can expect all the latest information on Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2 and the one and only Forza Horizon 4. Additionally, Microsoft has also announced other breaking news as well as exclusive interviews so make sure you tune in to their livestream.
FIFA 19 and Battlefield V are definitely going to be the main talking points of EA’s booth at Gamescom 2018. They’ve also promised more than 300 gaming stations available to give you the latest look at those 2 games. I’m sure you’ve all seen the trailers – they’re absolutely epic and give us all confidence neither of these games will be a flop. In addition to all that, EA also announced exclusive Origin Access Premier Lounge on the show floor where fans will enjoy the latest vault games. One thing is certain – there won’t be any lack of entertainment at EA’s exhibition with both FIFA 19 and Battlefield V having a huge fanbase!
Ubisoft is going to have a proper blast at this year’s Gamescom. They’ve sent out more than 100 employees and will showcase 10 games all of which will be available for demo gameplay. Needless to say, fans will be thrilled with such good news. It’s also important to add other game news to the table – new Breach Mode for For Honor: Marching Fire, Rainbow Six Siege S3 Operation Grim Sky and the all-new Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Skull & Bones will get its airtime too, but many users are already mocking it for its lack of land exploration and proper single-player experience. Chances are high Skull & Bones is going to be a pretty big flop…
Bethesda is aiming big for Gamescom with 4 of their immensely popular franchises. Even though the original Rage had great gameplay and was a graphically astonishing game for its time of release, fans just didn’t enjoy it that much. However, it seems as though they’ll give it another shot. Yup, Rage 2 is set to be released in early 2019. Other notable Bethesda games to be featured on Gamescom are Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot, a brand new VR game set 20 years after the events of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. The Elder Scrolls: Blades and Fallout 76 will be in the discussion as well. In fact, Fallout 76 Party has already been announced to celebrate Reclamation Day – the 25th anniversary of the nuclear bombing in the Fallout universe.
Nvidia set to announce important news as well
Gaming is the base around which Gamescom attracts fans and video game publishers are there to fuel it all up. However, there would be no proper video game titles without the help of some raw power… and luckily, Nvidia is there to solve all of our issues. With a couple of graphics cards already in everyone’s minds, it will be really interesting to see just what sort of performance can we expect from them.
Of course, I am referring to the newest RTX 20xx series which has been the talking point of Nvidia news over the last couple of weeks. Several models are in the focal point – RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti, both of them being high-end models with unparalleled power. As we have recently found out, RTX in their names stands for Ray Tracing which aims to deliver even greater visuals in next-gen games. Yup, we’re almost at the point of having to use current gen and next gen terminology for the next 2 to 3 years or so. The gaming cycle spins right back to its core… Of course, there is some fuss regarding the medium tier model – 2070, which is definitely going to be the crowd favorite just like with last gen’s 1070 model.
People who play eSports for money will, obviously, be more interested in RTX lineup while most others will have 2070 to feast upon. One thing is for sure, 2070 card is going to deliver better value for money than either one of RTX cards, but so far there’s no concrete info on the price tag. I guess we will have to wait for more Gamescom 2018 news to confirm that!
