It’s been a busy few weeks for Riot Games with updates, champion reworks and the unveiling of a new champion. Originally teased in April, Qiyana was finally revealed by Riot not long ago. Now here’s what you need to know about the new League of Legends champion, Qiyana, the Empress of the Elements.
First off, she’s an elemental solo lane assassin and hails from the Yun Tal caste. She will be able to use the powers of water, earth and grass to fight on Summoner’s Rift. The youngest child in a ruling family, Qiyana grew up in Ixaocan, a city-state hidden deep in the jungles, and became the greatest elementalist the world has ever seen.
In the trailer shown by Riot, Qiyana is seen holding a very sleek weapon and is revealed to be able to use her powers over the elements to control her environment in very distinctive ways. The fact that she is the first solo lane assassin since Zed’s release, seven years ago, make her an even more exciting champion for players.
Qiyana can create a shockwave that knocks back enemies and stops when it hits a wall. Any River, Wall or Brush hit by the shockwave explodes to deal physical damage to enemies and stun them. The duration of the stun depends on the distance. She also possesses the ability of her next basic attack or ability dealing bonus physical damage. Furthermore, she can dash a fixed distance towards the target enemy, dealing physical damage.
Qiyana’s Edge of Ixtal ability deals piercing physical damage. Upon gathering an Element, this ability upgrades to Elemental Wrath and resets its cooldown. Another ability that uses Elements is Terrashape, which gives Qiyana bonus attack speed; her attacks and basic abilities deal bonus damage, and she gains out-of-combat movement speed while near the corresponding terrain type.
The gemstones seen in the Riot reveal indicate that weapons seem to draw from the grass, earth and water as she takes on the mastery of the elements. All in all, the addition of Qiyana by Riot is a brilliant one that players, especially ones who take on an assassin role, will want to try out. The new League of Legends champion will soon take roots in Summoners Rift!
